Endings and Beginnings

Sunday, May 20, was Dan and Dana Teefey's last Sunday at Hillcrest Covenant Church. Dan, the High School youth leader, graduated from Seminary on Saturday and they are going to take the summer to relax and travel a little before Dan becomes the pastor of a church somewhere in North America. The Teefeys and their ten month old daughter, Adelaide, have been at Hillcrest for five years and it was very hard to see them go! :'( But we'll keep in touch with them for sure! Dan gave a really great sermon on new beginnings that morning for his final duty as a Seminary Intern. After church, there was a big farewell party/barbecue for them and the High School gave a presentation of "The Top 11 Reasons We'll Miss Our Youth Leader, Dan Teefey." I actually wrote all of the reasons after compiling a list of ideas with some of the others in the youth group. Then each of us said a more serious goodbye and people from the congregation were invited up and did the same. Dan & Dana had been involved with the youth ever since they started attending Hillcrest and their first major youth event was also my first ever Deep Freeze. Dan & Dana will be greatly missed, but God has a new beginning and I know they have some great things headed their way!


With Dan leaving, he passes the torch of High School youth leader to Dave Vollstedt, who is already heavily involved with the junior high youth group. He has helped on many Survivor retreats and has been teaching Sunday School for the junior high this past year. He's been planning some of the upcoming youth events for the summer, and the first one planned has me really excited... On Saturday, June 2, my youth group will be going to Wisconsin for Fish Fest 2007. It's a huge 10-hour concert with six major bands, a speaker, and a comedian. The reason I'm so excited is because of who will be closing the night... STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN!!!!!!!!!! I'm a really huge fan of his music and I can't wait to finally see him in concert! My new youth leader also won tickets to this event through my favorite Christian radio station, 101QFL. I've been trying to win tickets every day this week, and if I ever do, you'll be the first to know! I'm going whether I win tickets or not, but it still would be cool to win them. Anyway, I'll post more about stuff later when I get a little more time - this flamingo-ing fundraiser has taken up so much of my time lately! Oh, and American Idol ends tonight! My top 3 were the top 3 on the show, so I really don't care who wins... More to come...
